About Walker Smith

A Successful Day on Lake Lanier

My name is Walker Smith, and I am the president of the Georgia College Bass Fishing Team (ranked as the number six team in the country in 2010 by FLW Outdoors) and an outdoor sports writer.

I have been fishing for as long as I can remember, and words cannot accurately articulate the impact that this sport has had on my life.  With my dad being an avid lifetime fisherman, it was only natural that I followed in his footsteps -- I guess you can say that it's in my blood!  Some of my earliest memories revolve around early morning sunrises and the smell of a two cycle engine.

By my middle school years, I was itching to continue fishing and learning its elements on my own.  Almost every weekend my dad would drop me off at an old farm pond in my hometown of Grayson, Georgia and allow me to fend for myself.  It wasn't as easy without him with me, but through many afternoons of frustration, I finally got the hang of it and became immersed in the science of catching largemouth bass.

This continued throughout my high school years, as I found myself getting better with every year.  I will always remember running to my truck (with my jonboat in the back) after classes to go fish my favorite local hotspots.  I was always known as "the guy that's always fishing"!

I came to Georgia College as a transfer student in 2007, and it has been the best decision I have ever made.  After being recruited by the fishing team here, I was elected president after my first year of participation.  Since then, I have become even further consumed by the sport of tournament fishing and all of its intricacies. I now travel all over the country competing in various collegiate trails.

Along with my busy tournament schedule, I also write fishing articles for both local and national publications.  I have always thoroughly enjoyed writing, and I love to put my experience and knowledge into words.  It is a deep passion of mine, and God willing, I will do it for the rest of my life.

This spring, I will be writing for FLW Outdoors and possibly Georgia Outdoor News (GON).  I am blessed far beyond what I deserve, and I will continue to put my best foot forward in order to make the most of the opportunities the Lord has blessed me with.

With my May graduation quickly approaching, I am now faced with the challenge of making a name for myself in the fishing/outdoor industry.  Fishing is all I've ever done, and it's all I ever want to do.  I plan on seeing how far my talents will take me in tournament fishing while also writing and guiding fishing trips.

I strive to be the hardest working guy out there -- I won't stop until I reach my dreams, and I mean that.  Regardless of what may happen, I will be forever indebted to the Lord for blessing me with such a strong passion, appreciation, and respect for this wonderful sport.

Tight Lines and Good Fishing,
Walker Smith
